Comfort is one of the main considerations while choosing a bathtub. A tall person chooses a deeper bathtub while a shorter person usually opts for a shallow one. Standard tub is usually 14" to 17" deep while European style tub is 18" deep.

Whirlpools come under specialty tubs. A Whirlpool is soaker tub fitted with water jets, an electric pump and piping. Water comes at a high speed, which renders them unsuitable for kids and people suffering form certain ailments. A whirlpool is installed not just to bathe but also to have hydro massage therapy.

When buying a whirlpool, don't just go by the design, color or the look of it, also consider its safety features. A word of caution- never use bath salts or bath oils in your whirlpool, as they cannot be cleaned properly after use. This can lead to various infections.

Leaking tubs are a menace. Leakage of bathtubs can often force a homeowner to replace the whole bathroom floor. Water usually collects between wall and the floor next to the tub. This is due to cracks in the caulking or gaps between the floor and the wall. To prevent this, dry your bathroom after every used. Use a good quality caulk to fill any gaps between wall and the floors, next to the tub or shower. A small amount of precaution will go a long way in preventing big losses.
