Another classification of cabinets


They are-stock, semi custom and custom cabinets. Stock cabinets are mass-produced, semi-custom are stock cabinets that can be altered to fit the space requirements and custom cabinets are built to individual specifications. These terms refer to production methods of cabinets and in no way to quality types.

Stock is the most popular cabinetry. They are readily available. Delivery time is usually a week to 10 days. The disadvantage with stock cabinets is that there are limited shapes, sizes, and style available. Also they may not properly fit in the space.

Semi custom is the second most popular cabinet type. They offer a wider range of style, colors, finish, sizes etc. They are basically stock cabinets whose certain dimensions can be changed. Their draw back is that the delivery time is long. It may take a month or longer. Semi custom cabinets are usually more expensive than stock cabinets.

Custom is the built to order cabinetry. They offer the widest range and options are much greater. They take the longest delivery time and are most expensive of the three options. They are made on nonreturnable basis. Kraft- maid is a leading manufacturer of custom cabinets.

There are certain other points to remember while selecting a cabinet. They are -
Color, style and finish of the bathroom cabinets have to match the bathroom as a whole and your vanity in particular.
If you have a relatively smaller bathroom and space is an issue, then European style cabinets can be considered. They use less space because they are frameless. They are considered an alternative to traditional American ones. The American cabinets are framed. Cabinets cover the rough edges of each box with a face frame; drawers and doors are usually partially or completely overlaying the frame.
